ok, i contend. some female drivers are really fantastic!

while at the same time, some of them can be really good at bartending...

caught some rugby action yesterday evening, and topped off watching kaira doing a mtv production shoot at the esplanade.

we've all heard of the saying, crime does not pay... but for those offenders out there who know no better, short of stoning, there's a practice that's well and alive and a great deterrent should people want to resort to crime:

presenting, caning in malaysia. part 1, part 2 and part 3. the ending footage of part 2 made me cringe... and wonder what did the guy do to get 20 strokes. another clip here, in case you survived watching the first few...

on a lighter note, thanks to tiny... a song on bmt

went on attachment to albert for a wedding today, of abel and michelle.

along the proceeding of the day... in the morning, fellow clubsnapper and canoepolo player dogfish came along in a car to the somewhat quiet area; so happens that his sister (who's my age) is actually the event mc for the night! hours later, my primary school classmate pinwei identified me and called me by my pinyin name (such things rarely happen to me - not since i stopped using the name for over a decade!) and zishin's brother, ziwee was one of the groom's "brothers"! all these on the first actual day wedding i've been to... what would the future hold?

got lots of pointers for how to improve though. gotta make my learning fast; want to underpromise and yet overdeliver; not the other way round!

got to meet a few committed hsbc staff during the cj guided walk this morning. had lunch together, and i'm very glad i dragged myself out of bed this morning.

got home, quickly made a rush to ecp - where i met my pals to recce for a ride next week. got my chance to finally see the pretty lass huilin who was keeping her sail at the pa surf centre (or sail centre?); as well as long-missed friend, betty at the site of the triathlon training session, where she was helping out as a kayak patroller. then i picked up the last battery from jason for the 1d. gotta put it to use tomorrow!

blooper for the day - three of my four chainring bolt sets dropped out from my cranks as i was riding back. rode entirely back home using the granny. bought a shimano m760 11-34 cassette, since i'm really wondering if my current sram pg990 11-32 has already gone the way of the dodo.

starting to wonder a tad seriously about getting a motorbike licence. the transportation charges sound pretty much palatable to me. plus i could carry more stuff than riding on my bike. need to do some serious homework on this first.

will meet huilin some other day... yaay!

da vinci code, as a movie, was pretty coherent and well-paced. i didn't read the book, i can't be bothered too much. but one thing of note - some of the questions that audrey tautou's character asked tom hanks'... the timing seemed odd. it's like asking you a question a year after it has happened, when in time they had been together on the run for less than a week.

apart from this blooper... the show was pretty engrossing. long though. two and a half hours. when the show finished, i could just turn around left-right and hear the cracking sounds my spine had stored up for the entire duration of the movie.

just some things i posted for sale today:

canon's lz1324 that came with the 70-200/2.8 is lens. reserved in just 5 minutes!

olympus' local camerabag that was bundled with the e-1. still pending sale.

one email that i received from adobe s.e.a. today came in with this quote from mark twain:

"twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. so throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. catch the tradewinds in your sails. explore. dream. discover."

no doubt that my life now is very uncertain, with no official work title. i resigned from teaching when i was 26 back in march, and going 27 this october. i am now a freelance photographer, cycling instructor and also working towards my licence in practicing insurance. no doubt, for each of them i will face difficulties, but they're going to help mould me into a stronger individual, with His grace. i really appreciate aundry's somewhat harsh but absolutely pragmatic advice that if i were to stay in my teaching line, i'd be too "straight-minded" and can't be flexible in the real world.

i'm giving the tutorial a miss today, and making it up with four nights' worth of night classes instead next week. gotta get my notes ready!

p.s. i closed this firefox window for my blogger by accident, thought it was digital toast. but hey, blogger has this autosave function... cool!

i just realized that janice's site directed an incredible 108 hits in the last three days. way to go, girl!

in the meanwhile, my own photography website is taking shape step by step. as i wrote in my friendster profile just now, i want to be a fleeting memory in people's minds. i want to leave a mental footprint that people remember, but can't hold on to.

this was what i wrote for my friendster profile just now:

earning about dreams and reality now. photography is my dream, but my vehicle to successful photography is via insurance. both provide people with intangible benefits to people who know me that nothing much else in the world can match - except teaching.

i want to go out and see the world, but before that i have to have money. no matter what, i will not be unscrupulous; because integrity will gather friends and people of similar beliefs together with me.

i don't want to ever marry, even though so many other friends of my age, jc/polytechnic friends etc, some even younger - have already married, some already moms and dads. i want to observe the world, i don't want to participate. i want to be a piece of fleeting memory that touched people's lives, as if a dream. not meant to be forgetten, but remembered in a different way. in order for my survival and existence in society, i will provide services that others can't just place a pricetag on. that's right. photography and insurance.

i have wanderlust, and i want to see more of the world. i want to bring my mountain bike with me and travel with it. a life partner is out of my scope right now, because i don't think that i can be a good husband. a life used to serve others would be something that i'd be more than thankful for. deep down, i trust that good works for this lifetime are paving for the next lifetime in the company of God. blessed are those who have found their One in their lifetimes, i congratulate you all.

i want to live a life by myself. i don't want to be a bad husband, and thus i shall not spend time to seek anyone. all that i need in emotion, is available when i close my eyes and speak with my heart.

i believe i'm getting closer to the purpose of my life.

rocketing down a volcano...

nothing of the sort happened yesterday at the race at tampines, thankfully!

Saturday, May 06, 2006

did you realize why there were so many thunderstorms over the last four weeks or so? i believe i have what leads to the answer...

after meeting nat over some haagen daaz strawberry icecream, and while i was riding back home the short distance, i know why the people's action party seems to be extra jubilant tonight, making a din at the serangoon stadium, despite the ominous flash lightning all over the night sky of 11pm.

the main reason why the party is still so "happening", is because singapore is ruled by lightning. oops. but that does explains the recent surge in the thunderstorms with lots of lightning...

went to guide at cj today. not bad, got to see my 3rd knobbly sea star, almost one foot across in size!

walked the sensory trail before lunch, and tried out the following yummies: basil leaves, mint leaves, malay gooseberry, noni fruit, nam-nam, white mulberry

petajali and creat were the figurative, "bitter mouth, good medicine" in chinese. ultra bitter!
